Year 12 Pupil’s National Theatre Success!

We are over the moon and totally thrilled about Y12 pupil Rach’s play ‘Blue’ making it into the top 10 shortlist for the National Theatre’s Playwrighting Activity programme.

English Department teacher Kirsty Reid has been running this with the pupils in collaboration with the National Theatre, and said,

‘The play Rach has written is utterly wonderful and really hit home with the mentor and judges.’

In terms of next steps, all shortlisted plays are now being read by the NT’s final Reading Panel, made up of professional directors, writers, and dramaturgs from across the industry. One play will be selected to be fully staged in the National Theatre’s Dorfman Theatre on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th July as well as filmed and distributed to schools.

The other shortlisted plays will receive a Rehearsed Reading at the National Theatre in one of their Learning spaces, with a professional director and cast.

We will find out the winner on the 25th May (and will keep you posted) – however, Rach has already blown all our socks off with her brilliant talent!
