TfL Travel for Life programme
Forest awarded its second consecutive Gold Level accreditation by TfL in recognition of its achievements in the TfL Travel for Life programme
Creating change is hard. Improving the environment to help create a sustainable future can seem a monumental task but beginning with small, achievable steps at a local level is a good start.
For some years Forest has been living its commitment to cleaner air and more sustainable travel as a keen participant in the TfL Travel for Life programme, undertaking a huge number of activities and schemes to support safer and more sustainable travel, as part of its wider sustainability work.
These include many activities such as encouraging participation in cycling to school by pupils (and staff) for instance, a loan scheme to support staff purchasing a bike and the installation of additional cycle and scooter parking areas; road safety programmes for our younger pupils; creation of pupil air quality champions to encourage peers (and parents!) to think and travel more sustainably; pupil participation in the TfL Stars Challenge programme, building a group of ambassadors as role models for the school community (for which they were awarded a high commendation in the ‘top influencers’ category of the TfL Stars top schools awards 2023).
There has also been carbon literacy training for staff; Forest’s participation in the TfL school party travel scheme, Walk to School week and Clean Air week and so much more – and supported and encouraged by our excellent pupil-led sustainability working committee.
Let’s make 2024 an even better year of participation, commitment and achievement!
