The Return of Self-Esteem

At Forest, we are delighted to we have established an ongoing working partnership with the nationally renowned Self-Esteem Team.

On Friday 17th November, Grace Barrett, one of the co-founders of the ‘Team’, returned to Forest and worked with our Y8 and Y9 pupils in a series of workshops. The main points of discussion were the role of the internet (specifically social media), pornography, advertising and the media in shaping our body ideals. Our pupils were given a very clear message that fitness, fashion and beauty can be used to express personal agendas, but these industries should not dictate how we feel about ourselves.

One of our pupils commented ‘I really enjoyed how Grace was able to relate to us. She completely gets the pressures we face in today’s society and she provided us with some really good advice’
