Pupils help Edna celebrate 100th birthday

Pupils from the Prep and Senior schools helped one special lady celebrate a milestone birthday on Wednesday 10 May.

The pupils, aging from 10-16, visited Forest Dene Care Home to mark resident Edna’s 100th birthday.

In front of a packed house, including Edna, her family, the Mayor of Redbridge and all the care home residents the Prep School pupils performed some wartime favourites such as White Cliffs of Dover and We’ll Meet Again.

They were also accompanied by a wonderful quintet led by senior pupils Allegra, Noeka, Megan, Ziana and Georgia.

During the visit, the Prep School pupils also presented Edna with flowers, whilst, Joseph, Y11, gave her a special birthday card signed from her friends at Forest. Joseph regularly volunteers at the care home as part of Forest’s community work.

Speaking about the visit, teaching assistant Mrs Karen Kelsey said: ‘The visit to the care home went really well and we were thrilled to help Edna celebrate such a special day

‘Edna and her family were delighted to see all of the children and were clearly moved by their wonderful performance.

‘Following their performances, the pupils led the care home in singing happy birthday to Edna.’

In recent years, the School has developed a close relationship with Forest Dene and makes regular visits with the pupils.
