Nazi Germany expert Professor Sir Richard Evans speaks at Forest

Old Forester Professor Sir Richard Evans (Copeland’s 1959-1966) visited Forest on Wednesday 3 May to speak to pupils and staff.

Professor Evans, who is current president of the Wolfson College, is a world-renowned expert on Nazi Germany and the Third Reich.

During his visit to his former school, he spoke to pupils and staff about the rise of the Nationalist Socialist German Worker’s Party. In the fascinating talk he explored the perfect storm of events and political movements that led to Hitler becoming Führer in 1934/

Most recently, actor John Sessions played Sir Evans in the critically acclaimed film Denial which highlighted his remarkable expertise in action.

Sir Evans was part of the expert witness team that proved that Holocaust denier David Irving had used forged documents, quoted historical documents out of context and mis-cited historical records in order to support his prejudices.
