Mossy Bottom Comes to Forest

Today we welcomed Jim Parkyn, expert model maker for Aardman Animation, to Forest as part of our enrichment Lookout Lecture series.

Jim began the lecture with a presentation about working in the animated film industry and then gave students the chance to learn how to make their very own Shaun the Sheep at this fun, hands-on clay modelling workshop.  They also got the opportunity to ask questions about the tricks of the trade from the Aardman studio.

Jim Parkyn has been a freelance sculptor and model maker for Aardman Animations for over 20 years, leading teams on a range of exciting projects (including several series of Shaun the Sheep).

You’ll see his work in Chicken Run, Wallace and Gromit and the Curse of the WererabbitThe Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!, Shaun the Sheep Movie as well as Creature Comforts and many famous commercials.

The workshop was recorded and can be used for different year groups at Forest at a later date.

Here are some of the student’s creations – they’re amazing!
