U16 Hockey Team through to National Finals
Forest under 16 boys have made history by qualifying for the National Indoor Finals.
After winning the Essex round in November, the team qualified for the Regional Finals which was held at University of Essex on the December 10th 2017. History was not destined to made on this day, as the snow and freezing temperatures meant the tournament was postponed the night before. We had an anxious wait until Sunday 7th January 2018.
After the New Year greetings the team got down to business by beating Bishops Storford (6-5) and Ipswich (3-2). Their third game saw them suffer their first loss of the tournament against Norwich (5-4). The team quickly got back to winning ways with a win against Stamford (5-3). The acorns now had nine points from four games which they thought would see them through to the Finals, but after a quick glance at the table we realised our last game vs The Perse was a must win game to guarantee a spot in the finals. The stakes were high for both teams, as a win for The Perse would see them go level on points with Forest. At half time the score was (2-2) in a cagey game. The intensity of the second half resulted in a bit of a blur! All we can remember was scoring a few more goals and counting down the clock. The team, lead by Liam Dolden, showed immense grit and determination to be crowned Winners of the East Region.
Now we get ready to take on Whitgift, Worksop, Dean Close, and Altrincham Grammar in the group stage of the National Finals.
