Matilda star visits Forest
Following weeks of nail-biting heats, the Preparatory School’s House singing final took place on Tuesday 7 May. The Preparatory School was delighted to welcome actor and singer Elliot Harper, who is currently starring in the West End production of Matilda to Forest as the independent adjudicator.
Ahead of the final Elliot led a brilliant workshop for the eight contenders.
Preparatory School Music Coordinator, Mrs White said: “During Elliot’s masterclass, the pupils came on leaps and bounds in just a short space of time.”
“They all really valued getting feedback from such a prestigious professional in the field of singing and acting.”
After the workshop the whole Preparatory School was treated to a rendition of ‘The Smell of Rebellion’ which is sung by Matilda villainess Miss Trunchball.
Mrs White added: “It was incredible to see a professional singer on Forest’s stage performing such a hilarious, energetic and characterful song.”
The eight finalists, Ria, Holly, Emma, Damara, Kishan, Sofia G, Sofia B and Nelly, then all took to the stage, performing their chosen songs with immense poise and confidence.
Although almost impossible to decide, Elliot gave the winning prizes to Ria and Holly, who are both from Poole’s House.
“I think it’s fair to say that it is the highest quality of singing we have had in this competition and all the finalists gave sterling performances,” Mrs White said.
“It was brilliant to welcome Elliot to Forest and we look forward to next year’s competition.”
