Five pupils take part in chess Megafinal

Jack, Y5, Austin, Y5, Zachary, Y4, William, Y3 and Ruhaab, Y6, all took part in the tournament alongside competitors from across the county.

During the day, each participant was required to play six rounds against different opponents.

Speaking about the ‘Megafinal’, Jack said: “My favourite part of the tournament was when I played my last game, because if I won, I would go through to the next stage of the tournament. It was really tense. Luckily I won, so me and my dad celebrated.”

“It was nice having Ruhaab, Austin, Zachary and William there too so we could cheer each other on.”

Austin, 5B, added: “It was more challenging than I expected. A chess game can go anywhere; it could take two minutes or it could take two hours.”

The Forest team did exceptionally well, achieving enough points from their matches to qualify for the national ‘Gigafinal’ which is to be held in Manchester in July.
