Year 7 Musician wins at Blackheath Festival

Year 7 violinist and pianist, Lucien Engelmann, won the top prize in the Strings Grade 6 & 7 class at the recent Blackheath Music Festival.

In competition against both adults and other school aged musicians, Lucien performed the Sarabande and Double from J.S. Bach’s B minor Partita.  Lucien said the adjudicator gave him some great advice and overall the experience was a little daunting but very exciting and he was especially thrilled as this was the first competition he had entered!  Since this success, Lucien has also participated in the North London Music Festival, giving a short recital of some very famous piano music: Mozart’s Fantasia in D minor and Debussy’s (aptly titled) Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum.

Lucien is certainly making not just steps but strides forward with his performing, not only as a soloist but also as a member of the Scholars’ Strings, School Orchestra and the elite Chamber Orchestra here at Forest.
