Volunteering with Refugees in Lesvos

For six weeks over summer, Forest School History teacher Jodie Spencer volunteered with refugees on the Greek island of Lesvos.

Over 1.5 million refugees have resided in Lesvos since the Refugee Crisis of 2015, hundreds of thousands of whom are unaccompanied minors. Jodie worked for a Greek NGO, providing education in English and Maths to many of these minors who were living in Moria; known to be one of the worst refugee camps in the world. Ms Spencer also arranged several projects and played volleyball virtually daily – anything to get a smile on these incredible children’s faces.

Jodie also arrived armed with posters and resources provided by Forest School which the education centre found immensely useful as it really brightened up their ‘classrooms’.
