Forest School Careers
Last week the Forest School Careers Team organised an event for STEAM Club which was attended by more than 50 people including pupils from year groups ranging from Y7-Y13, along with parents and attendees from some of the local maintained schools we partner with including London Academy of Excellence and Walthamstow School for Girls.
Three Forest Departments worked together to deliver the event as part of our careers programme’s Gatsby Benchmark of encounters with employers/employees.
The guest speaker was Rob Nelson, an aerospace professional with more than 20 years’ experience in the industry having worked in in-service engineering, flight trials and Customer Technical support and as the Head of Marketing at Ultra Electronics PCS. He brought with him control panels for an executive jet and Concorde for the audience to experience for themselves, who found the difference in weight and size astounding, with the jets’ panels being remarkably small and very light.
A member of staff from Walthamstow School for Girls who attended said afterwards, “Thank you so much for inviting us to the STEAM event yesterday evening. It was very informative and we all really enjoyed it,” and we have had similarly positive feedback form our own pupils who said it was “amazing,” “really interesting” and “helpful.”
Pupils also requested that Rob Nelson comes back to tell us more so, by popular demand, another invitation has been sent and we hope to host him again in the near future – watch this space.
